幫英式料理洗白，英國(guó)可不只有“黑暗料理”

It’s breakfast time. Forget stacks of pancakes covered in maple syrup and push aside your love of grits. As there’s really no place for any of these items in the classic full English breakfast. So grab your knife and your fork, and come with me, as we feast our eyes on Britain’s most treasured national dish.

Maple syrup是楓糖漿，加拿大有名的特產(chǎn)，美國(guó)人特別喜歡澆在pancake上吃，也有很多人會(huì)跟著bacon一起吃。Grits是粗玉米粉，也是美國(guó)人早餐經(jīng)常吃的食物。不過(guò)正宗的英式早餐可見不到他們哦，一會(huì)兒Kate就會(huì)一一給我們介紹地道的full English breakfast里包含了什么。

Sausages

The full English breakfast is the perfect place for you to show off your sausage. And no, I’m not talking sausage patties or hotdog wieners. Instead, we prefer a simple Lincoln or Cumberland sausage, fried or grilled.

Patty是那種finely chopped meat or fish formed into a small round flat shape，可以翻譯成小肉餅。Wiener也叫做frankfurter，是一種long thin smoked sausage with a reddish-brown skin, often eaten in a long bread roll as a hot dog，就是熱狗里夾的香腸啦。(看到wiener想歪的孩子自動(dòng)面壁去!)不過(guò)full English breakfast不用這兩種sausage哦，他們更喜歡Cumberland sausage (A very long, spicy pork sausage traditionally made in the north of England. It is usually twisted into a spiral before cooking.)或者Lincolnshire sausage (這個(gè)到底是什么大家可以去Wikipedia查閱)。

Black pudding

I can only imagine this is called a pudding to make it sound more appealing. Black pudding is actually not a pudding. In fact it’s more like a sausage but made with kidney fat, oatmeal and pig’s blood. It’s sliced and then yeah, you guessed it, fried. It tastes a bit dry and salty, a bit like everything else in the plate.

叫它“布丁”完全是為了聽起來(lái)更誘人，其實(shí)它根本不是布丁，更像是血腸!切片之后油炸，吃起來(lái)有點(diǎn)兒干有點(diǎn)兒咸。

Baked beans

Our baked beans are very different to the original American creation, which was made up of beans, stewed with pork and molasses. British baked beans are stewed haricot beans typically in a tomato sauce. You can make your own, but most of us just buy them in a tin.

Baked beans (small white beans cooked in a tomato sauce and usually sold in cans)經(jīng)常被翻譯成“甜豆”，它們跟美國(guó)的Boston baked beans (small white beans baked with pork and brown sugar or molasses)不太一樣。雖然可以自己做，不過(guò)正常人一般都會(huì)買罐頭來(lái)吃。

Toast

Toast or fried bread is essential for mopping up all the lovely grease left on your plate. You can use it as a platform to transport eggs and beans to your mouth, or you can save it and cover it with marmalade.

我們可以用土司把雞蛋和豆子送進(jìn)嘴里，也可以沾著果醬吃。

Mushrooms

Mushrooms should never come from a tin, only fresh mushrooms will do. Grilled or fried them gently and add some herbs if you’re feeling particularly creative.

Tomatoes

Grilled tomatoes are perhaps the most colorful item on the plate. Next to the browny creamy beigey color of everything else. These have a tendency to explode. So try not to wear your favorite T-shirt to breakfast unless tomato juice embarrassment is the look you’re going for.

番茄應(yīng)該是整盤食物中最“色”的了，因?yàn)槠渌亩际亲亓税蛇蟮?browny)，黃了吧唧的(creamy=pale yellowish-white)或者是土了吧唧(beigey=light yellowish-brown)的顏色。但是要注意，番茄會(huì)噴出汁，吃的時(shí)候要小心……
