The Chinese word “Shanzhai” means a small mountain village, but now it becomes an accepted name for fakes () after “Shenzhen Cellphones” produced by small workshops in southern China became popular in the mainland market over the past two years.

Besides “Shanzhai” has electronic products, there are “Shanzhai” movies, “Shanzhai” stars and even a “Shanzhai” Spring Festival Gala, a copy of the 25-year-old traditional show presented by CCTV on Chinese Lunar New Year’s Eve.

“Shanzhai” has become a culture of its own, symbolizing anything that imitates something famous.

The phenomenon has caused a public debate over whether it is healthy or sick being a copycat.

In southwestern China’s Chongqing Municipality, a “Shanzhai” version “Bird’s Nest” woven by farmers with bamboo attracts wide attention and the “Shanzhai” version “Water Cube” is popular with tourists too. Both are copies of the famous Olympics buildings in Beijing.

Xie Xizhang, a literature critic, said that taking the “Shanzhai” Gala as an example, when the traditional CCTV program becomes less and less attractive to the audience, the “Shanzhai” version appears naturally to attract people.

“In spite of its poor techniques and operation, ‘Shanzhai’culture meets the psychological demands of common people and could be a comfort to their minds,” Xie said.

Tian Huiqun, a professor at Beijing Normal University, said that “Shanzhai” culture never copies classic things, only trendy products. In that sense, it’s like a computer virus, multiplying without meaning.

Though controversial, “Shanzhai” culture is becoming a widely accepted phenomenon.

To the mainstream culture, the rise of “Shanzhai” culture is a challenge as well as a motivation, said Xie.

Tian said different kinds of cultures developing together is an ideal situation and it is for the public to choose.

Honey from the African forest is not only a kind of natural sugar, it is also delicious. Most people, and many animals, like eating it. However, the only way for them to get that honey is to find a wild bees’ nest and take the honey from it. Often, these nests are high up in trees, and it is difficult to find them. In parts of Africa, though, people and animals looking for honey have a strange and unexpected helper - a little bird called a honey guide.

The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax in the beehives (蜂房). The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees’ nest. So, when it finds a suitable nest, it looks for someone to help it. The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the attention of both passing animals and people. Once it has their attention, it flies through the forest, waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they finally arrive at the nest, the _follower reaches in to get at the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always falls to the ground, and this is when the honey guide takes its share.

Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax, but it is very determined in its efforts to get it. The birds seem to be able to smell wax from a long distance away. EDGEWOOD—Every morning at Dixie Heights High school, customers pour into a special experiment : the district’s first coffee shop run mostly by students with special learning needs.

Well before classes start, students and teachers order Lattes, Cappuccinos and Hot Chocolates. Then, during the first period, teachers call in orders on their room phones, and students make deliveries

By closing time at 9.20 a.m. , the shop usually sells 90 drinks.

“whoever made the chi tea, Ms. Schatzman says it was good, ”Christy McKinley , a second year student , announced recently, after hanging up with the teacher.

They learn not only how to run a coffee shop but also how to deal with their affairs. They keep a timecard and receive paychecks , which they keep in check registers.

Special-education teachers Kim Chevalier and Sue Casey introduced the Dixie PIT from a similar program at Kennesaw Mountain High School in Georgia.

  2024屆·馬鞍山市第三次質(zhì)檢)

Ask any group of teenagers in the UK what they most like to eat, and foods like pizzas, hamburgers and chips are sure to get a mention. But what teenagers like to eat is not necessarily what they should be eating. According to the National Diet and Nutrition Survey, far too many young people in the UK between the ages of 4 and 18 consume too much fat, sugar and salt in their diet. Meanwhile, their intake of fibre, iron and calcium (鈣) is too low.

For a growing body, eating foods containing plenty of calcium, such as milk, yogurt and cheese, is important as calcium is completely necessary for the development of healthy, strong bones. Similarly, foods that are rich in iron are good for young, rapidly developing bodies, so red meat, bread, green vegetables, and dried fruit are also recommended.

It is during our teenage years that lifestyle habits can be formed, so it is vital that young people are educated about what foods are good for them. In 2005, and in an attempt to change eating habits and open teenagers' minds to new tastes, the famous chef, Jamie Oliver started a “Feed Me Better” campaign. He worked with teachers and cooks in a number of schools across the UK to provide more healthy, nutritious school meal choices. Although some teenagers and parents resisted it, the campaign was in general believed as a huge success and helped to influence governmental policy on nutritional standards for school meals.

No one expects to end the teenage love affair with fast and junk food but, hopefully, if projects like “Feed Me Better” continue to give out the right messages, more young people will understand the importance of balancing several treats with healthier food choices.

Title: A Little of What You Fancy

1.______ Teenagers' 2.______ has too much fat, sugar, salt and calories.
